Tonight is the longest night of the year!

I woke up late today. I didnโ€™t fall asleep until 3 or 4 a.m. I had bad dreams.

Maybe I will have better dreams in the new year.

It was cold and brisk outside today. Last weekโ€™s snow is still on the ground.

We traveled all day. We went to see a Christmas show with Mโ€™s parents and had lunch afterward at a nearby restaurant. Then we went to a bookstore to buy a few gifts. We are traveling again on Saturday, but for now we are home and warm.

I remember the winter solstice as a child. We would light candles, lamps, and lanterns, fold paper stars, and play games together in the cozy darkness. My parents made the day a special one.

Childhood feels long ago. I am nostalgic. But in the years since then, I have been very lucky to celebrated the winter solstice with friends and family from around the world.
